MY Babies! Maddie and Bennett
I know, I know. It’s been FOREVER since I took my own babies’ photos! It’s not that I don’t want to, I just know it’s going to be a struggle. I’m a mommy first. A photographer second. So when you moms call for pictures and I schedule the appointment I give no more thought about it until we meet. Now, mommy’s on the other hand, don’t STOP thinking about it until the shoot is over! We have to plan the outfits, get them ironed, make sure the kids have napped, been fed and potty’d and bring bribes. Then, we have to get them to the location, without getting anything on their outfits and THEN we have to get them to smile. I mean, they smile ALL time and we see their cute faces and so want to capture that so we can look back and ooh and ahh over how cute they were. Only problem is, they aren’t always smiling. In fact, my household still sees quite a few tears EACH DAY!
I say all of this to tell you that I know EXACTLY how you feel. I feel that same way when I’m photographing my own kids. Except I think it’s magnified because the pressure is on for me to GET them to smile and to GET the shot. That’s a lot of pressure on this Alabama girl!
But, the key to getting great pictures is PATIENCE and PLANNING. I’m not always the most patient person, but I really tried to be patient and ended up (after waiting patiently) getting some cute shots. And it is a must to plan ahead. Don’t schedule an appointment during your child’s nap time, I mean who wants to smile when we’re tired?!? Or don’t schedule a session when it’s cold outside. Kids can’t fake it very well. 🙂 And above all, let them be themselves and leave the rest up to me!
Gosh, I sure talked a lot today. But now it’s time for some photos. Maddie and Bennett, you have made me feel so fulfilled in my life. Your “I wuv you’s” and “Mommy, hold my hand”, will always be very special to me. I love you more than words will ever explain and I am so thankful that I get to hang out with you both every day! Hugs! ~Mommy
This is how it started…….
Then I got his embarrassed look……
And a decent one, but not the sweet adorable smiles that I know and love!
Bennett, who is now 3!!!
And Maddie, who is now 6!! And yes, she does know how to smile for me! 🙂 That’s my girl!
And finally, after being in the cold, and having our sweet neighbors jump up and down, I got this one!
